Billy Lee is 25 years old. His parents died in a freak accident[^His parents' house collapsed in on itself for no reason, crushing the parents. The strange thing was that several pieces of furniture was missing from the wreckage including the parental bed!^] on his 21st birthday. He and his brother split the inheritance and the insurance from their destroyed house. With that money Billy bought two things. The first was a temporary living place in the shape of a trailer which he parked on the site of his parent's old house. The air has long gone out of the tires. The other thing was a night club in Alexandria. The club hadn't been doing well lately, and this was a 'deal of a life time'.
Billy Lee's reason for buying the night club was simple: he was a party-loving satyr! His childhood fantasies and adventures didn't fade into mere memories when he hit puberty; they matured. Billy Lee was a big-league party boy. He was tall, sexy and shamelessly outgoing. He was on all the VIP lists. He guzzled free champagne in private booths as if it had been water. He had both men and women falling over themselves to spend the night with him. What could a man like that do to raise his game? Own a night club of course!
Billy Lee had a great time at first. But he found himself having less and less time to spend actually enjoying it when the banality of owning a night club kicked in. There always seemed to be some unpaid bill or another form to fill out. Suddenly he had to worry about if he was going to be allowed to extend his liquor license. Balancing the books was another one of those headaches which he never had to worry about before. The place had to be staffed and they required payment and that meant a whole nightmare of bureaucratic implications in terms of taxes, contracts and responsibility.
During the four years that he owned the club, banality crept into his life and he never once noticed it. The wild parties of his early life faded into memory and pictures until finally Billy Lee was nothing but a depressed club owner with a drinking problem and forgotten passions. That is how we find him at the start of A Bitter Taste of Haven.
Billy's issue lies within the grip Banality has on him at the start of the story. He has failed his faery self. He will be given a chance to rediscover what he truly is. But remembering that he is a satyr will not be enough. He will have to make some tough decisions on how to change his life in drastic ways or risk succumbing to banality forever. But the question is this: what will he do with his rediscovered faery life if he gets there?
Billy Lee's closest relative is a William Lee, his brother. People used to make fun of the fact that the two brothers in effect had identical names. Their parents insisted that they knew about it at the time they named Billy, who is one year younger than William. However, both brothers suspected that their red-neck parents just didn't know better.
The similarities between the brothers end with their names. William is a bookworm. While Billy escaped his dreary and depressing parental home by setting out on wild adventures in the forest or, later, wild parties (often also in the woods), William found his escapism in school and the library. He did all his homework and often his brother's too. William now runs an internet security firm from his flat in 'central' Haven where he is the only employee, working as a contractor to improve security for various firms. William has no problems managing the banality of his own company, including his taxes. As far as the old fea-aware Billy could see, the only shred of Glamour ever created in William's flat was when he played World of Warcraft.
Billy have several uncles and aunts and a number of cousings. The Lee family was never a very close family however and so they don't spend much time together.
Billy Lee has a lot of contacts in the club scene of Alexandria. Had there been a club scene in Haven, he would have owned it. Billy also have contact on the streets of both Haven (or shall we be honest and say dirt roads?) and Alexandria. Some of those contacts may be a little rusty, but Billy would have left quite an impression and still has a lot of strings that he can pull. These contacts run the gamut from drug dealers to rich kids enjoying the night life's wilder side.
Finally, Billy Lee has a lot of contacts among his lovers, both men and women.
Billy has a strong and warm presence which infects all of those around him. When Billy is in his normal genial frame of mind he can make friends and lovers extremely easy. People just find it difficult not to melt under the influence of this tall handsome man with the playfulness of a child and the flirty sexual aggressiveness of a teenager. But Billy also has a bit of a temper and he is prone to mood swings. Lately, his mood has been stable though; it has been rock bottom for a couple of years as he stagnates into banality.
Billy's drug of choice is sex. He is a player of majestic magnitudes. He has turned seduction into an art and he is the unquestionable maestro. Flirtatation has become a reflex for Billy.
Billy is extremely good at charming the people around him. He has no problems getting upgrades on flight tickets, getting into the right clubs, getting discounts in shops and so on. He doesn't manipulate people into doing things they don't want to do; he just work his magic to make them want to do do whatever favour he requires. Minor lies can go a long way, but he backs them up with a healthy dose of charm.
Billy is very connected to his body and as such he has always taken utmost good care of it. He goes on long runs in the wood and works out regularly. As such he has become quite the athlete. He has has reason to use his physique in a number of bar fights when his charm has not quite made it all the way. To his pride he has been victorious more often than not in those situations.
Billy is in essence a positive individual. He fundamentally believes that the world is good. As such, he belongs to the seelie court.
Having hibernated in banality for so long, his sudden awakening to the dreaming will affect Billy drastically. Everywhere he goes he is struck by the awesome wonder of existence, faery and mundane alike. As such, his dominant seelie legacy is pishogue.
Should Billy ever slide towards the unseelie court, his main bad side would come alive in the form of the legacy XXXXX. Vanity would control him and make him an unpleasant, although still beautiful, creature to deal with.
So far, Billy does not belong to any faery house. Neither does he have much in terms of faery contacts. With time that could change.
Billy grew up in a house that stood right on a faery holding. It is a small holding, but due to its size it is also relatively unknown. When the house was destroyed, Billy bought a trailer and put it in the same spot. He just did not want to give up the many wondrous dreams he dreamt there. Night after night he'd wake with a restored belief in the world as a place of wonder. Billy knew the value of such a holding but his brother did not. So when Billy asked to buy his brother's share he got it for a cheap penny.
When Billy slipped into his forgetfull banality, he still could never find the will to give up his trailer. He commuted the hour drive back every night, never quite knowing why. Had he followed his head and lived at the club, he would for sure have been irrevocably lost to banality. But as it was, his fae-infused home kept a link alive to the dreaming and Billy's satyr nature never fully died.
